The folks living in the Allied Drive area are our neighbors, and Westminster is a member of Allied Partners, sharing the vision of a strong, healthy community in the Allied and Dunn’s Marsh neighborhoods. Each year Westminster provides a community meal with music and games for our Allied area neighbors. In 2019, with Madison’s Mayor and District 10 Alder attending, Westminster was presented with the neighborhood association’s “Allied Accountability Award”.
The Westminster congregation and the Presbyterian Women of Westminster provide financial support for the Eviction Prevention, Wellness Center, youth and special projects, and other Allied Partner’s funds. On the first Sunday of each month, Communion Sunday, we collect donated groceries and money for the Allied Food Pantry. We also provide “gap lunches” for Allied area students when school is not in session.
Shown below, we invited many Allied famines to join us on the annual Westminster pontoon boat ride around Lake Mendota, providing transportation, tickets, and ice cream at the UW Memorial Union. We collect adult gift items and in the spring help about 100 children wrap and label Mother’s and Father’s Day gifts at the Madison School District Learning Center on Allied Drive.
In December, Dane County’s Joining Forces for Families collects gift requests from hundreds of Allied area children, with 60 of these shown decorating Westminster’s Angel Tree. Members purchase substantial (suggested $35) Christmas gifts and write a personal positive and supportive note.
